POLYNUCLEOTIDES

WHAT ARE POLYNUCLEOTIDES?

Polynucleotides are long chains of nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA and RNA. These molecules have various roles in the body, including cell repair and regeneration within the skin whereby they work at a cellular level to repair tissue and boost skin quality.

In aesthetic treatments, polynucleotides are injectable treatments derived from fish DNA, where a highly purified process to extract the DNA has taken place and made it suitable and safe in aesthetic treatments.

Why do we use them?

They are used for their repairing and regenerative properties of the skin and hair cell.

How do they work?

Polynucleotides are injected into the skin and work by:

  • Stimulating cells within the skin called fibroblasts which encourages cell turnover and production. These cells have a role in collagen and elastin production therefore improving elasticity, boosting collagen and hydration of the skin.
  • Tissue regeneration which promotes cell repair and regeneration and improves the quality and appearance of the skin or hair.
  • Providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protecting skin from damage and reducing redness and inflammation respectively.

Polynucleotides also calm inflammation and rebalance melanocyte (the cells that form pigmentation in the skin) activity to create an even and refreshed skin tone.

The clinic has a selection of polynucleotides that can repair and regenerate skin and hair to help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Dark under-eye circles
  • Skin laxity
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Dullness of skin through deep hydration
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Reducing redness and inflammation
  • Thinning hair

POLYNUCLEOTIDE TREATMENT INFORMATION

How many treatments are required? Best results are achieved from 3 sessions, 2–3 weeks apart, giving immediate and cumulative results.

Procedure: Safe non-invasive treatment where shallow injections are placed evenly across the surface of various areas of the face or body.

Procedure time: 30–45 minutes.

Downtime: The small spots at the injection sites will disappear within 24–72 hours.

Results: Visible in 2–4 weeks. The skin is hydrated, supple and less creased, and enhances further with subsequent sessions. Following the recommended treatment protocol will prolong the effects of the treatment.

Pain/Discomfort: Minimal discomfort. A local anaesthetic cream can be applied over the area to be treated to help with minimal discomfort.

Downtime: No long recovery time and you can continue day-to-day activities after treatment. However, the bumps may be visible and take a couple of days to settle.

Repeat treatments: Maintenance/top-up doses as soon as you feel required. A further session within the year, 4–6 months later is recommended.

Benefits: Helps to repair and regenerate compromised skin. Improves skin roughness in the short-term (effect lasting 3 months). Improves skin quality in terms of hydration, elasticity, texture, radiance, firmness, scarring and blemishes. Prevention of skin ageing. Long-lasting results.
